Dear Staff & Volunteers,
Bill & I just wanted to inform everyone that Porkie has bladder cancer. We decided to let her go play with her brother, Peanut at Rainbow Bridge. We are so grateful for everyone at Heartland that took care of her especially for John & his wife. We will forever be indebted to Heartland for housing our Porkie until she found her forever home with us. Porkie was an awesome dog. She was so mild mannered, friendly,Beautiful, quite, quirky & sweet. She LOVED her people. Everyone in our neighborhood knew Porkie even though they didn’t know us even our Postman, John. She was especially special to me because I decided after, Peanut passed, that I wanted an older adult female. Thanks to Jessica at Doggie Daycare in Milwaukee she found Pork for us. When we are ready, we would like to get another beautiful, friendly Boston like Pork & Peanut. Keep your eye out for one for us! Thank you again for blessing us with Porkolorcus! Maybe we will be seeing you soon! Much Appreciation to you all!!

Ally
I adopted sweet Ally in June last year from Heartland. She is the sweetest little angel! I can’t believe she was there for 6 months, but I am sure glad she waited for me! This shelter is amazing..and the volunteers are so caring!
Nelson (fka Mr. Doc)
Hello Heartland!
It’s hard to believe that Mr. Doc (now Nelson) has only been in our home for less than 2 months. He’s made himself right at home! He loves to eat (no surprise), although he has trimmed down a bit. He’s getting used to belly rubs and likes to give kisses. He’s also very playful and curious. Every nook and cranny and every sound must be investigated! Every morning he makes his circuit running around the apartment, and every night he can be found at the foot of our bed, although occasionally he’ll come to our pillows to check on us briefly and then return to his post at the foot of the bed. His favorite places to hang out are the couch and in our closet, but while we’re home he is usually located wherever we are. He’s such a sweet little fella, and we’re looking forward to many more years with him! Thanks for helping us find another wonderful companion, Heartland!

Barry (fka Raymond)
I spoke with Beryl the other day about how Raymond (now called Barry) is adjusting to us. He is a very good
boy. Everyday he gets a long walk with Ziggy and then at night when we get home Barry and Ziggy get cuddle
time on the couch. They are still adjusting a little bit because Ziggy is very rambunctious. So we are still
waiting for the wrestling to slow down, and Ziggy needs to learn how to give Barry breaks. You will see in the
pictures how much Ziggy loves Barry, so we try to make sure Barry gets some alone time, too ๐ But our
trainer (who makes house calls) tells us it’s all good play, and things are heading in the right direction. Barry
is very sweet, and our Wisdom Panel (attached) gave us insight into his breeds (Jack Russell, Labrador,
Plott hound, and dachsund).
We are having a good time and everyone is getting lots of exercise ๐
Thank you!

Clooney Kipper (fka Kippy)
Hello!
In late 2011, we lost two cats within weeks of one another. Not only were we sad, but we noticed that our remaining cat, Neuman, was sulking and following us around the house like a lost puppy. Life is too darn short, so we started looking at shelter websites and visiting various shelters in our area with the hope of finding a new companion for all of us…but nobody appeared to be “the one.”
Unbeknownst to me, my husband, Andy, visited a new-to-us shelter (Heartland!) after work one day and found a little boy named Kippy. Actually, Kippy found Andy when he put his two front paws on Andy’s knee. A couple days later, Andy asked me to meet him after work for dinner but instead surprised me with a visit to Kippy. I fell in like pretty quickly, but both of us are quite indecisive. So, we left without him. However, over dinner we both expressed that we kinda missed the little guy already, so a few days later, we went back and adopted him.
Kippy is now Clooney Kipper. He likes to fetch and watch YouTube videos and nature shows on TV. He is a very talkative love bug.
Clooney loved Neuman dearly, so when we had to say farewell to Neuman in 2015, we decided to give another kitty a great home ASAP. While we adopted again fairly quickly, we did take the time to find the right sibling for Clooney. And did we ever find the right one…Annabelle Ginger, otherwise known as Annie, from Spay and Stay in Grayslake.
Thank you Heartland!

Atticus (fka Muppet)
Hi Heartland! I adopted Muppet, now Atticus, a year ago and we are doing great. He is my lovable goofball who likes to follow me around no matter what I am doing. I think he has almost doubled in size this year. He’s doing great. He’s become my exercise buddy and gets along great with my orange tabby Maisie.
Thanks again for everything. -Lauren
