Heartland is a no-kill animal shelter and a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization. We provide food, shelter, medical treatment and loving care until homeless animals can find permanent, loving homes. Please help us save the lives of these deserving animals by making a tax-deductible donation now.
If you have a more specific wish for your donation, please consider our Dr. Do More Fund, Arlo Fund, becoming a kennel sponsor, or donating in honor or memory of a special person or pet! To become a Heartland Hero and give a gift to the animals each month, join our membership program. If you are not in the position to donate financially, there are still other ways you can help our animals.
IRA charitable rollover If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can direct the custodian of your IRA to distribute up to $100,000 annually from your Individual Retirement Account directly to a qualified charity such as Heartland Animal Shelter without having to pay income taxes on the money. You get no deduction but the distribution satisfies some or all of your required minimum distribution, saving you income taxes.
Appreciated stock You can give appreciated assets that you have owned for more than one year such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds to Heartland Animal Shelter and avoid capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the assets. In addition, if you itemize your taxes, you will receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for the full value of your gift.
Donor-advised funds A donor-advised fund is a little like a personal charitable savings account. You can create an account and make a contribution of cash, stock or other assets. In return, you receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction, and you can then recommend grants to your favorite charities like Heartland Animal Shelter whenever it makes sense for you.
Adopt
When you adopt from a no-kill shelter, you save two lives. The animal you adopt and the one that replaces him.
Volunteers are the heart of Heartland Animal Shelter.
Volunteers are instrumental in the day-to-day operation of the shelter. From walking dogs, to playing with cats, to answering the phones...there is something for everybody. Please check out our volunteer opportunities!
