Countdown to Success

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline often recommended for newly adopted dogs to help ensure a smooth transition into their new homes.
It describes the general adjustment timeline a dog may go through after adoption:
1. First 3 days: The dog is typically in a state of stress and confusion. They are adjusting to the new environment and may be shy, fearful, or exhibit behaviors like hiding. This period is crucial for allowing the dog to settle in, but don’t expect them to be fully comfortable yet.
2. Next 3 weeks: The dog begins to adjust to their new routine, gaining more confidence and showing their true personality. They will start to understand where they fit in within the home, and you might see a broader range of behaviors as they become more comfortable.
3. Next 3 months: By this time, the dog should have settled into their new life and formed stronger bonds with their new family. Their behavior may have become more consistent, and they are likely to feel more at ease in their new home.
The 3-3-3 rule emphasizes patience and understanding, helping owners set realistic expectations for the dog’s emotional adjustment and ensuring a better long-term relationship.
