Our family want to sincerely thank Heartland Animal Shelter and it’s wonderful staff for making our dream of adopting a pet, now our reality. Laverne (now BrownSuga) is such a beautiful and blessing addition to our family!

Cashew

Hi Heartland!

Liz, Dina and Cashew here and we could not be happier to have found each other!

We enjoy how well trained he is. He sits, stays and doesn’t go to the bathroom in the house! We’re also currently teaching him “paw”. He loves to cuddle up with us and likes to always be with us. He loves being outside and he loves all his toys and sometimes brings them with for naps on the couch. He also really loves the snow and is the king of the couch!

Ginger

Around a year ago we adopted Ginger from Heartland. What an amazing dog she has grown up to be! She has even turned some family that wasn’t big on dogs into dog lovers with all her sweetness! She now enjoys playing with her dachshund sister, going to dog parks, swimming, and a good game of tug of war! Thanks so much Heartland for all you do!

PS: Ginger was one of the Spice Girl puppies who were at the shelter in April of 2016. Her sisters names were Posh, Spice, Sporty, and Little Baby. They had black snouts and were from Kentucky, we would love to try and find the happy dog parents via Facebook and set up a play date!! Message Heartland’s Facebook page if you are one of their parents.

Joey (fka Stewie)

Hello- We recently celebrated 1 yr adoption anniversary and 2nd birthday of one of your alums – our beloved Joey (Stewie at Heartland). He is the most incredible, loving dog and we cannot imagine our lives without him. Our 6yo daughter is his best friend and watching them be raised together is a treat every day. He is literally our 2nd child.

Also we found out through DNA test that Joey is a lab/pit mix and as an advocate and supporter of bully breeds I was so happy to help dispel myths surrounding the pit bull breed through our own dog. Our neighbors all love him and he is the most amazing family dog. I strongly encourage Heartland to take in more pits into your organization and educate adopters about how wonderful they are.

Keep up the good work,

Kunkle Family

When you adopt from a no-kill shelter, you save two lives. The animal you adopt and the one that replaces him.
