Philip
Just wanted to give an update on Phillip, who we adopted in early 2018. He was a scaredy cat and lived under the basement stairs at first. He is now a cuddle bug. He lives with 3 other Heartland alum: Amber, Peach and Cosmo.
Aspen (fka. Lucky Star)
My name is Aspen! You may remember me as “Lucky Star”. I was adopted from Heartland Animal Shelter on February 27, 2016 and this week I’m celebrating my 5th birthday.
I’ve been quite busy with my dad since I left Heartland. My dad and I live in Chicago and he takes me (almost) everywhere he goes. We like to explore the forest preserves around the city. My dad even takes me on trails while he goes mountain biking and I stay right by his side. My dad is a firefighter for the Chicago Fire Department so sometimes I go to the firehouse to visit him (I do my best to not get in their way if they get a call).
I’ve tried a lot of new things and gone on countless adventures since I was adopted. I swam in Lake Michigan and hiked in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. I even went all the way to Utah and saw a buffalo! (My dad wouldn’t let me chase it).
Thanks, Heartland, for making sure I got into a loving home. I hope other dogs like me can be as lucky to find the perfect family.
Sophie (fka Spooky) & Monkey (fka Denali)
2011 alums Sophie (fka Spooky) and Monkey (fka Denali), still healthy, sweet and fun wishing all a Happy Valentine’s Day. Thanks, Heartland!
Euclid & Dexter (fka. Skittles)
Hi! I don’t know that anyone there would remember since it was 9 years ago but I wanted to share pictures of our 2 boys we adopted from you 9 years ago today! Euclid is the gray one and Dexter (was Skittles when there) is the black and white one. They are the center of our lives and are so happy to have been lucky enough to bring these boys into our lives. Euclid had a very loud purr when we adopted him and still goes strong to this day.
Bailey (fka. Fennek)
Just wanted to give you an update on Fennek/Bailey. He is such a sweet loving boy. At his first vet appointment last week I had bloodwork done (as a baseline) and everything was within the normal range. Our vet thinks that Bailey is more than likely between the ages of 8-10 months and still has a bit of growing to do. He is very playful and silly. He is so eager to please. We are still working on his manners (the mouthing and jumping). Bailey starts AKC Good Citizen Training on September 15th.
My daughter has been clicker training Bailey using verbal and hand cues and rewarding with treats. Bailey has mastered sit, lay down and roll-over. He is also walking nicely on a leash now (no biting). Our family is anxiously awaiting the results of his DNA test. We know he’s predominantly German Shephard….and are curious how the results will come back. My daughter thinks he’s part dingo. I think he’s part shiba inu. Will let you know once we find out. 😀
