Big Heart, Bigger Yard!

Last fall, we took a major step toward a long-held dream for our shelter: expanding our outdoor space for dogs. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the late Sara Lynn Adler, we purchased the empty property directly south of the shelter from Waldmann Lighting Company and built a new dog play yard.

The eight-foot perimeter fence is now complete, along with two adjoining large runs for play groups and agility, ten smaller runs for meet-and-greets and fresh-air breaks, and a new large storage unit.

Over the next few months, we’ll wrap up the remaining projects, including roofing and dividers for the runs, landscaping to create a welcoming environment, and, of course, agility equipment, new toy bins, and picnic tables where staff, volunteers, and visitors can relax and watch the fun.

Thank you for your continued support of Heartland. Because of you, we’re able to take this exciting next step—and we can’t wait to enjoy this new space together!
