At Heartland Animal Shelter, every animal has a story — and this August, four of our most unforgettable ones are ready for their next chapter. As part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign, we’re proud to waive adoption fees all month long for four remarkable companions.
Meet Tinker, Flossie, Hamilton, and Emmer: our Fee-Waived Fantastic Four. Their personalities are distinct, their journeys inspiring — and they’re all just one forever home away from the happy ending they deserve.
Tinker: The Tabby Who Triumphed
Under a year old, Tinker came to Heartland from Chicago Animal Care & Control with light medical needs that have since stabilized. Thanks to dedicated care and a warm place to recover, she’s blossomed into a playful, curious, and affectionate young cat. Tinker is ready to leave her past behind and grow up in a home of her own. Flossie: Resilient, Regal, and Ready
Flossie is under two years old and has been with us since October — the last remaining cat from a hoarding case intake. She resides in Cat Room 4 and can often be found lounging on the catio, observing the world with grace. Flossie has come a long way emotionally and behaviorally, thanks to the consistency of our staff and volunteers. She is now seeking a calm, loving home where she can continue to bloom. Emmer: The Social Sweetheart
Emmer is a calm, friendly girl with a truly special gift — she’s often chosen as the “helper dog” in playgroups because of how well she gets along with others. She brings a grounded, nurturing energy to every space she’s in and would be a wonderful match for families or individuals looking for a steady, social companion. More information
Hamilton: Our Loyal Longtimer
Hamilton is the kind of dog who doesn’t demand the spotlight — but he certainly deserves it. A quiet, loyal, and easygoing boy, Hamilton is our longest-resident pup. His small size, low energy, and love of neighborhood walks make him the perfect apartment companion. He spends his days relaxing in the staff office, where he’s adored by all.
