We are Looking for Qualified People to Serve on Our Board!
This is the time of year when we start the request for nominations to serve on the Heartland Animal Shelter Board. One of the hallmarks of a mature board is having members who provide diversity in terms of skill sets, backgrounds, and lived experiences. We are open to considering all applicants, but an assessment by the HAS Governance Committee of our current board skills and backgrounds has identified a specific need for individuals who have backgrounds in accounting or finance, IT or digital marketing, or are a local businessperson from the Wheeling community, whether they are currently associated with the shelter or not.
Given that there are a limited number of open board positions for the next fiscal year, our recruitment efforts will be focused on individuals who offer these talents. We would appreciate everyone’s help in thinking about potential candidates and sharing the application information with them, which can be found here. The Governance Committee will also be targeting relevant associations (e.g., the Wheeling Chamber of Commerce), but word of mouth is always a great way to reach people!
All applications are due by Saturday, March 15th, after which the Governance Committee of will assess the applications, invite candidates for interviews, and recommend a slate to the full Board for approval. Those selected for the slate will be notified by late April and will be presented to the full shelter membership for a vote at the Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 13th.
Please forward this information to anyone who is qualified or may be interested (may it’s you!). We will review and consider all applications. For questions, please contact Board President, C.J. Sultz.
