Heartland Animal Shelter has a new home!
The Board of Directors and Executive Director of Heartland Animal Shelter are excited to announce that we have purchased our very own, and very first building, located at 586 Palwaukee Ave in Wheeling, just three miles from our existing shelter. This new building will allow us to plan for the long-term future of the shelter and continue Heartland’s mission in a modern, up-to-date facility that will be better for the animals by creating a more safe, sanitary and welcoming space for them while they are in our care.
Some really exciting concepts about the new building include:
- Modern large indoor dog play space
- More meet and greet rooms for cuddle time or adoptions
- 4 cat rooms
- Separate areas for small and large dogs
- Outdoor access for cats to a "catio"
- Larger kennel spaces for dogs
- Accessible to all (ADA compliant)
